Darwin Arias

Undergraduate Assistants

Darwin is an undergraduate student in Columbia College with an intended major in Neuroscience & Behavior on the pre-med track. He is passionate about researching the effects of a variety of different stressors, including stress in caregivers of chronically ill family members and Latino immigrant stress pertaining to health care accessibility. Darwin joined Sleep, Mind, and Health, in Summer 2019, as a Laidlaw Undergraduate Research & Leadership Scholar at Columbia University, working on a research project that looked at the effects of acculturation and discrimination stress on life expectancy in Latinos, a question that addresses his immediate interests for entering the medical field as a child of Ecuadorian and Mexican immigrants. Darwin works as a Research Assistant for Sleep, Mind, & Health, hoping to be able to contribute to research that pertains to addressing issues of health equity among Latinos.
